historic carmel mission basilica wedding and sanctuary resort reception | sonya & chris

I met Sonya and Chris and their adorable little girl Bella earlier in the year when I shot their engagement session at the Wente Vineyard’s Winery in Livermore, CA. When they told me they were going to have their wedding at the Historic Carmel Mission Basilica, I was so excited.  This Catholic Church is absolutely breathtaking and I knew we were going to capture some great shots.  We literally could have spent an entire day shooting there!  Following the beautiful ceremony, we headed over to Marina, CA just north of Monterey where they had their reception at the Kula Ranch Steakhouse located in the Sanctuary Beach Resort for a Hawaiian themed reception complete with a roasted pig.  It was a great night with lots of dancing, a beautiful sunset, and wonderful memories with family and friends!

Special thanks go out to my team Kroner Reyes and Tim Lim!

hyatt san francisco fisherman’s wharf wedding | michelle & sami

This has got to be one of the most fun weddings I’ve shot!  I had met with Michelle and Sami from Vallejo earlier in the year and shot their engagement session at Jack London Square.  These two are a fun couple to work with, are so laid back, and are so open all the ideas we had. Their wedding was held at the beautiful Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. This is a great hotel!  I especially loved the beautiful light that filled the room of the bridal suite and made for some wonderful images of Michelle and her mother when they first saw each other with her dress on. Michelle and Sami opted to do a “first look”.  This special moment where the meet each other BEFORE the ceremony gave them time to be alone without the stresses of all the pre-wedding preparation.  It also gave us a chance to take photos and focus on just them.  The intimate ceremony was held in the hotel where Michelle’s uncle walked her down an aisle covered with rose petals.  They exchanged their vows and performed a symbolic sand ceremony which married two sands of color into one vase.  Only steps away from the famous cable car turnaround, the wharf, and all the iconic sights of the area, we were so excited to venture out for some photos with the bridal party.

Congrats to the new couple!  Wishing you the best.

Special thanks go out to my team for assisting me at this wedding: Charlie Mai and Tim Lim

berkeley wedding at the gaia arts center | amy & jeremy

Amy and Jeremy contacted me to photograph one of the most unique ceremonies I’ve ever been to.  What was unique was that there was no one presiding, no sermon, no justice of the peace, so sacraments, no formal prayer. Atop the roof of the Gaia Arts Center in Berkeley, was a Quaker ceremony! What was especially unique was that while there was a congregation of friends and family, they gathered in silence.  Quakers hold that each person has the ability to access their spiritual live without the necessity of an intermediary – through worship and revelation, the lessons may be seen within each of us.  What was beautiful about it was that when someone was moved by God to do so, any member of the congregation would stand up and speak to share their thoughts, a prayer, a message of praise or gratitude, or a story or lesson.  It was a very simple yet very enlightening ceremony.  At the end of silence, Jeremy and Amy recited their vows to each other and exchanged rings.

Following the ceremony, all the friends and family gathered in the Art Center Theater for a Dim Sum cocktail hour followed by a multiple (can’t remember how many) course Chinese banquet catered by Ginger Cafe from Sunnyvale!  Their first dance was especially beautiful in that all the guests were viewing from high above in the mezzanine of the theater while Amy and Jeremy were at the orchestra level.  Jeremy then surprised Amy with some unique dancing of his own!

Congrats to Amy and Jeremy!
